More of us need to show our DISLIKE towards air pollution in Hong Kong before the Government decide to do something more about it. As I type this post, I am looking out of my office window in Discovery Bay. When I look up to the skies, I see a pleasant blue sky, some white/grey fluffy clouds, and the moon - looks like a full one tonight. However, when I look towards the horizon, the furthest object I can see is a very hazy Disneyland Hotel, only 3km away. Beyond that could be anything, I wouldn't know.
On days like today I am glad that I have not arranged a hiking event, because I would hate to be taking people out on the trails and exposing them to harmful particulates. Especially when exerting themselves on a difficult hike.
Today I decided to setup a monthly event to raise money for Clear The Air, a registered Charity under Hong Kong Law (Registration Number 91/5296), committed to the introduction and implementation of measures to significantly reduce all forms of air pollution in Hong Kong.
Currently, Road Side Air Pollution is Hong Kong's worst offender. Hong Kong has the highest road traffic density in the world. Rather than walking through the streets of Hong Kong, Clear The Air and Hiking Hong Kong have come together to raise money through a hiking event.
This event will be hosted on the 12th of January, 2012. The event will take place at The Peak from Hong Kong Trail Stage 1. Meeting point will be outside Starbucks at The Peak at 8:45am. We will start the hike at 9am sharp. Our challenge will be to complete all 8 Stages of Hong Kong Trail (50km) in 8 hours from 9am to 5pm.
If you would like to support, donate or join in on this event please RSVP via our Hong Kong Trail Challenge event page.
While setting up this event, I received an email from Friends of the Earth (HK) and the Clean Air Network asking me to help them out by sharing their new campaign. I was more than happy to help out.
The Clean Air Network (CAN) need to collect as many "likes" as possible to tell the Hong Kong Government: We all DISLIKE air pollution!
So get your butt in gear and visit 萬人聯署:我地就係唔like空氣污染 (Ten thousand people unite: We DISLIKE air pollution) on Facebook and LIKE their page to DISLIKE Hong Kong Air Pollution!
