When I first hiked some of Lantau's Lantau Trail, I was quite disappointed. Stage 1, Stage 6, Stage 10 & 11, not to mention parts of Lantau Trail Stage 4, Stage 7 & Stage 8 resemble more of a walking trail, and much of it a boring one. After all, who wants to walk kilometer after kilometer along a water catchment with little to no views of the surrounding scenery?

I've often thought that there are many better options on Lantau trail to form a hiking trail that lives up to it's name, that would be much better than the current Lantau Trail.
For example today I was thinking about it, and I bet that in 15 minutes I could think of something much better than what currently exists. Lets base it on Stages also, and lets start from Sunny Bay. You'll probably need a map to follow along.
This is My Ultimate Lantau Hiking Trail Stages 1-10 <-- Click here for the map:
So for now, this works out to about 125km, and covers a lot more than the existing Lantau Trail. I know which one I'd rather be doing.
What are your thoughts?

I have a burning question for the creator of this post, or anyone who knows South Lantau reasonably well. I once hiked along Lantau south for approximately 4 hours, starting at Tai O and heading towards the south coast. I made it about as far as the beautiful and secluded Tsu Hsing Monestary before turning back because I didn't know how far, and what the trail leads to. This appears to be the most remote part of HK I have seen, which is what I am looking for. In fact, what I'm interested mostly is the completely undeveloped beaches at seem to exist on South Lantau. I generally hike by myself and have had many problems with scary roaming dogs. Does anyone know if the continuation of this trail has any danger of these type of dogs? Are there any villages beyond the point where I hiked? The remote villages always have sketchy dogs and are therefore my worst enemy as a solo hiker...can anyone please advise on South West Lantau please!!
