After having hiked past these 24 cabins located near the top of Sunset Peak several times, I decided that it is about time that I know more about them.

I quickly found out that information on the internet is quite limited, even Wikipedia only has a few lines of content. After a while of searching though, I discovered some interesting information.

The cabins that you will find at the top of Sunset Peak on Lantau Island were originally built by a group of dissatisfied missionaries in the 1920's and 1930's who were seeking a better place to reside. They were collectively referred to as Lantau (Laan Tau) Mountain Camp.

Much to my surprise, I found out that these cabins can be rented out on a nightly basis. And prices are HK$200 per night. I have to say that I am quite tempted.

As it turns out, cabin 16 (for 4 to 7 people) and cabin 5 (for 7 to 10 people) as well as cabin 14 & 18 can be rented out from a volunteer group (大東山爛頭營義工團 - Sunset Peak Volunteer Unit) who can be contacted via email at ltvuforall@yahoo.com.hk.

If you would like to rent these cabins, you may send an email to the above mentioned address, and they will send a form to you (in Chinese only) to fill out and send back to them. Keys can be delivered to Kwun Tong, Wan Chai and Tsuen Wan, as too can payment be made.
