If you've hiked Lantau Trail Stage 3, you've had the perfect view of Shek Pik Reservoir (below), the third largest in Hong Kong after Plover Cove Reservoir and High Island Reservoir.

Shek Pik Reservoir is located on the south side of Lantau Island, just above Shek Pik Prison. The reservoir was completed in 1963, after 6 years of construction. It has a storage capacity of 24 million cubic metres.

Lantau Trail Stage 4 was once located around the mountain sides of Shek Pik Reservoir, however after devastating landslides that affected most of Hong Kong during a black rain in June 2008, Lantau Trail Stage 4 was relocated to the northern side of Ngong Ping.

One can also catch a glimpse or two of Shek Pik Reservoir from Lantau Trail Stage 5 (above), and of course Lantau Trail Stage 9 (middle photo) which runs along South Lantau Road between Shek Pik Reservoir and Shek Pik Prison.
