Pottinger Peak Country Trail starts at Pottinger Gap (Ma Tong Au), about a 1.5km walk from Chai Wan MTR Station. The trail is popular among locals so you will see limited wildlife, however the views of Big Wave Bay, Shek O, Siu Sai Wan and Junk Bay are exceptional.

Trail enjoyment ranks in at 3 stars for Pottinger Peak Country Trail as it does get you away from the hustle and bustle, and it also offers some great views of Dragon's Back, Shek O, Big Wave Bay, and Siu Sai Wan. Concreted paths result in a lower enjoyment ranking. Difficulty ranks in at 2 stars as the hiking trail is predominantly flat, with a significant descent at the end.

Getting to the beginning of this trail is somewhat difficult as it involves a 1.5km hike from Chai Wan MTR station and up through a Cemetary. Alternatively you can also get to this point if you first complete most of Hong Kong Trail Stage 8, Dragon's Back.

You can get a good view of Dragon's back after distance post C4201 if you stand on the handrails. A little further on, views of Shek O and Big Wave Bay are visible.

Due to the popularity of this hiking trail, wildlife is limited. Pictured below is a Giant Golden Orb Weaver.

Keep to the left at the junction pictured below. Turn right if you want to go to Big Wave Bay.

When you see the stairs pictured below, take them up to the left.

There is a rock on the edge of the mountain here that offers fantastic views of Shek O and Cape Collinson Correctional Institution.

Keep left (straight ahead) at the next junction, then left (straight) again, and finally straight again, down the stairs.

The final descent is quite steep and offers some great views of Siu Sai Wan and Junk Bay.
