Lantau Trail Stage 8 is merely a concrete path, or more precisely a catchwater, that gets you from the end of Lantau Trail Stage 7 to the beginning of Lantau Trail Stage 9.

This hiking trail gets 2 stars for both enjoyment and difficulty. Enjoyment can only be had by a glimpse of Soko Islands and some views of Lantau Peak towards the end of this section. Otherwise, wildlife is the only distraction from this catchwater concrete path that can be seen hovering along the catchwater. Some minor ups and downs along the way boost this trail to a two star difficulty.

Carrying on from Lantau Trail Stage 7, continue along the catchwater until you reach Shek Pik Reservoir.

Many dragonflies and other buzzing creatures can be spotted along the catchwater

Lantau Peak can be seen ahead (above), while the Soko Islands are visible through this gap in the trees to your right (below).

This Japanese Quail was very well camouflaged amongst the brush to the side of the trail.

Keep to the left wherever possible until you reach the end of the trail.

Near the end of the trail, Shek Pik Prison can be seen down to your right.

At the end of the trail you can either catch the number 11 bus to Tung Chung, or continue on to Lantau Trail Stage 9, which crosses Shek Pik Reservoir.
