Lantau Trail Stage 3 takes you over the highest peak on Lantau Island, Lantau Peak, at 934 metres. Views are spectacular on a clear day of Chi Ma Wan, Shek Pik, Ngong Ping, Tung Chung and Sunset Peak. Be sure to set out on a clear day, or when the clouds are high, otherwise you are likely to see little due to smoggy skies or cloud cover.

This hiking trail gets 5 stars for enjoyment as it is on dirt trails and offers great views of Lantau South Country Park, Soko Islands, Sunset Peak, Shek Pik, Tung Chung and Ngong Ping. The trail gets four stars for difficulty Lantau Peak is very steep. The trail is quite short and has a total ascent of less than 1000m. Don't be fooled though, due to the sharp incline and decline you will be stopping for a rest very often, unless you are super fit.
This hiking trail starts from the end of Lantau Trail Stage 2 or you can jump on either the number 11 bus from Tung Chung to Tai O or the more expensive number 23 bus from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping and get off at the very top of the hill of Tung Chung Road.

This trail is pretty straight forward as there are only two turn-offs along the way. At distance marker L020, continue straight ahead.

As the trail winds up the very steep hill, we can see Sunset Peak to the right.

Lantau Trail Stage 3 is full of hopping, jumping and flying wildlife. Grasshoppers and dragonflies are everywhere!

The plant or flower below was rather odd with purple flowers and blue buds. This is the only stage of Lantau Trail that I have seen this plant.

Lantau Peak rises above up ahead. It seems to just go on and on!

To the left we are greeted with views of the Soko Islands as well as other islands dotted through the ocean.

Just past L024 you will reach Lantau Peak at 934 metres. Take in the fabulous views and perhaps have a rest and a snack before heading down the very steep descent towards Ngong Ping.

On the descent you will have some great views of Shek Pik Reservoir and Ngong Ping.

This is about the only vantage point of Wisdom Path that you will be able to see the actual layout. By the way, this is where Lantau Trail Stage 3 ends.

When you reach Wisdom Path at the end of Lantau Trail Stage 3, Lantau Trail Stage 4 continues to your right. Alternatively you may follow the signs to the bus terminus.
