To become a monthly event, our first Lantau Trail Charity Challenge was indeed just that - a challenge.

The challenge was to complete the 12 Stages of Lantau Trail in just 12 hours to raise money for Hong Kong breast cancer care services through the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. Pictured below: Sunrise on the morning of the hike.

Although little money was raised, we hope to see this event grow over the coming months. If you would still like to make a donation to our efforts, you may do so here: Hiking Hong Kong Lantau Trail Charity Challenge. Donations for this event close on the 30th of December, 2011.

A big thank you to Mishel & Kelz for coming along. Mishel, a novice hiker in Hong Kong did an amazing effort to complete stages 1 & 2 of Lantau Trail, successfully scaling Sunset Peak. Kelz continued on all the way to Tai O, just over 30km in total, completing Stages 1-6 of Lantau Trail. This was a remarkable effort and something to be truly proud of. Well done Kelz. Indeed it was also a new feat for myself as I have never completed both Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak in one hike, let alone hiking all the way to Tai O on top of that!

If you would like to see a full review of our efforts you can check out our Garmin Connect data of Lantau Trail Stages 1-6.

Our total time to hike from Mui Wo to Tai O was just over 11 hours, and we scaled a total height of 2,305 meters (4.76 times the height of the ICC building in Hong Kong) in that time. Our maximum elevation was of course Lantau Peak at a height of 934 meters.

Look out for our next Lantau Trail Charity Challenge next month! Pictured above: Sunset near Tai O.
