As we are an amateur hiking group, anyone taking part in any Hiking Hong Kong event assumes all risks of property damage, personal injury and death, and agrees to hold Hiking Hong Kong, its owners, its contributors and authors harmless from any liability. By participating in any event we organize, you agree to these terms.
Event Difficulty
Hiking events will be rated by difficulty out of a score of 5, with 5 being the most difficult. Total ascent/decent, distance, duration, trail composition & forecasted weather conditions will be taken into consideration when ranking these hikes.
Event Cancellation
Events will be cancelled if there is a thunderstorm warning, a T8 or above or a red rain or above. We will still go ahead if it is a T1 or T3, if it is an Amber Rain, or if it is raining.
Should the event organizer be unable to attend due to work obligations or other circumstances, the hiking event will be cancelled unless another event organizer can lead the group instead.
Supported Charities
The charities that we currently support are listed below. Hikers participating in group events may choose to donate money to the charity of your choice from the list below.
Charity Hikes will be specific to one charity. There is no minimum donation required, unless otherwise stated.
Clear The Air
Clear The Air is committed to the introduction and implementation of measures to significantly reduce air pollution in Hong Kong, through advocacy and education.
CTA has been active as a volunteer-based NGO in Hong Kong for twelve years, having been established as a charity in 1997 to address the city's increasingly concerning air pollution problem through several important and needed missions:
Please note that as Clear The Air is a registered charity in Hong Kong, we can provide reciepts for those who wish to claim charity donations on thier tax returns. Remember that an individual liable to pay income tax can donate up to 35% of his/her assessable tax to a charity such as Clear The Air.
DB Green
DB Green is a local non-profit organization which supports and promotes public awareness and environmental education by concentrating on Discovery Bay’s environmental and local culture.
Discovery Bay is well known throughout Hong Kong for having a reputation for being a “Green Community”. This unique area attracts hundreds of expatriate and local residents alike for numerous reasons. The main reasons being that DB reflects a haven for nature lovers and an environmentally friendly residence. On weekends and public holidays, countless visitors from other districts of Hong Kong make day trips with their families to Discovery Bay to experience this distinctive atmosphere.
Currently the Discovery Bay Management and it’s residents have developed and maintained some very good practices in DB such as recycling programs, high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, the “no cars allowed” concept, fun family events, as well as many other great attributes to our community. The objective for DB Green is to continue to contribute and enhance these existing practices as well as develop and expand on possible new ideas in order to preserve the wonderful qualities of Discovery Bay.
The Schuler Clairmont Foundation
The Schuler Clairmont Foundation is a non-profit organisation providing basic welfare and social services for Nepali children living in desperate poverty and suffering from neglect and deprivation. The Foundation will fund children living without the basic human needs of food, shelter, security and safety through on-going initiatives.
