Current Weather:
The current weather page gives hourly updates of the current weather (usually updated a few minutes past each hour). On this page you can find out current air temperature and relative humidity statistics. The temperature is further broken down into different areas of Hong Kong which is useful as often temperatures can vary by up to 3 degrees Celsius across the territory. The UV index recorded at Kings Park is also provided.
Local Weather Forecast:
The local weather forecast gives hourly updates of the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. Information about weather phenomenon such as monsoons, low pressure areas, tropical depressions and tropical cyclones are given as well as informing you how those weather phenomenon will affect Hong Kong in the coming 24 hours.
Depending on the time of day, a forecast for the following period (about 4 hours ahead) will be given along with an outlook of what is to be expected over the coming days.
7-Day Weather Forecast:
The 7-Day Weather Forecast gives an approximation on what is to come over the following 7 day period giving general weather information, expected wind speeds, expected temperature and expected relative humidity range in percentage.
Track and Positions of Tropical Cyclones:
When there is a Tropical Depression, Tropical Storm, Severe Tropical Storm or a Tropical Cyclone within the vicinity of Hong Kong, you will find detailed information about it here.
Rainfall Distribution:
This isohyet chart shows where in Hong Kong it has been raining in the past hour, day or the previous day along with an approximation of the amount of rainfall. If you are hiking in a specific area of Hong Kong you can get an idea of where the rain is falling and therefore what weather conditions to expect.
UV Index:
This chart maps out in 15 minute intervals, today's UV index level. Get an idea for when is the worst time to go out hiking, or how much you should protect yourself from the sun before heading out for a hike.
Real Time Weather Satellite Imagery:
Get an idea for the intensity of storms heading towards Hong Kong with this Real Time Satellite Imagery tool from the Hong Kong Observatory. With an animation sequence available, you can get a clear idea for which way wind is headed, where storms are going and most importantly to get an idea of whether or not you should head out for a hike.
